We ARE planning to hold live auditions for all sections and visual units if COVID restrictions allow

Audition requirements by instrument

Woodwinds, Brass & Electric Bass

If you are ready to audition for the CMB, FILL OUT THIS FORM. After submitting your information, one of the directors will contact you and set up a Zoom meeting.  In May, we'll send you a PDF of our pregame music which you will be required to play while marking time in place.  Additionally, we ask that you prepare a musical selection of your choosing (a short solo selection or etude) to show off your musical strengths.  We plan to hear you play live on the second day of your orientation session in July.  If COVID restrictions prevent that, we will pivot to accept a video submissions coupled with Zoom meetings. 

FYI: Other than $50 for your marching shoes and white gloves, there are no fees to be a member of the CMB.  Your instrument, uniform, uniform cleaning, gameday gear, gameday food & all fees for camp and the enitre season are covered by the University.

Drumline

If you are ready to audition for the CMB Drumline, FILL OUT THIS FORM. After submitting your information, one of the directors will contact you and set up a Zoom meeting.  In May, we'll send you a PDF audition packet which includes exercises, pregame music and stadium beats which you will be required to play while marking time.  We will check in with you throughout the summer months via Zoom to check your progress and make sure you are acheiving your goals.  If COVID regulations allow, we will hold live auditions July 23-25 at an overnight pre-camp.  If COVID-19 regulations prevent assembly, drumline auditions will take place when the CMB assembles live. The CMB Drumline instrumentation is snare, tenor drum, bass drum, cymbal & mallets (mallets are required to perform on cymbals as well).

Colorguard

If you are ready to audition for the CMB Colorguard, FILL OUT THIS FORM. After submitting your information, one of the directors will contact you and set up a Zoom meeting.  In late-May, we'll send you a video that illustrates many of our basic techniques and terminologies for you to work on throughout the summer as well as a flag routine to learn.  We will check in with you throughout the summer months via Zoom to ensure you are making progress and acheiving your goals.  If COVID regulations allow, we will hold live auditions July 23-25 at an overnight pre-camp.  If COVID-19 regulations prevent assembly, auditions will take place when the CMB first assembles live.

Twirler

To apply for a feature twirler position at the University of Virginia, please submit a biography (PDF) that summarizes your twirling background, your past instruction, and significant performances/awards in your history.  Also submit a video that includes performance with 1 and 2-3 batons and demonstrates talented skill sets that are unique to you!  Videos may be in full costume or practice wear with twirling shoes. Some of the essential skills required to be a Virginia Feature Twirler include:

  • the ability to complete a toss illusion
  • toss three-spin
  • a variety of rolls
  • creative body work and flexibility
  • gymnastic skills are encouraged but not required.
