Arts Supplement Information

UVA Admissions allows applicants to submit an Arts Supplement as part of their Common Application. For more information about submission deadlines and submission instructions, please visit https://music.virginia.edu/applying. Submitting an Arts Supplement to any area of the Music Department allows a faculty member to review your submission and share an assessment of your abilities with the Admissions Office, which gives Admissions a more dynamic understanding of your application materials.

UVA applicants may choose to submit a Cavalier Marching Band Arts Supplement for review by the Director and Associate Director of Bands. We review Flute/Piccolo, Clarinet, Saxophone, Trumpet, Horn, Trombone, Euphonium, Baritone, Tuba, Snare, Tenor Drums, Bass Drum, Cymbals, Color Guard, and Twirler Supplements. Drum Major supplements are not reviewed; instead, current Drum Majors should submit a supplement package on their primary instrument.

Your Arts Supplement materials should include a PDF resume of your achievements related to your area(s) of performance, include your high school, personal email, and phone number. Winds, brass, and percussion: please submit at least two pieces or solos of contrasting musical content approximately five minutes in duration where you are performing by yourself or with a piano accompanist. Please do not submit videos of full marching band performances as we are not able to assess your individual abilities. Colorguard recordings should be a close-up camera view from a winter guard or marching band performance. Twirler videos should be a full, unedited routine set to music.
